Summer

Summer in Whitefish is a great time to come and stay. Montana’s Flathead Valley is home to nine championship golf courses all within a forty-five minute drive of one another. They offer a mix of mature, well-tended courses, more contemporary layouts with carpets of bent-grass greens, open links-style layouts, and tight, forest-lined fairways. Glacier National Park is only 30 miles away for day excursions and rides on the vintage, convertible Red Buses. Rafting, horseback riding, hiking, and Whitefish Mountain Resort activities are must-do summer adventures.

Alpine Slide at Whitefish Mountain Resort

On the slope beneath Chair 6 will be a serpentine, U-shaped track for a ride called an Alpine Slide. Riders will take a wheeled sled up the lift, enter the track, and then careen down to the bottom as fast as they're daring enough to go. Speed is controlled with a handbrake on each sled, and the track has high walls on fast corners that let the sleds take advantage of the physics involved in high-speed gravity-fed downhill rolling.

Grab a sled and race down the Alpine Slide, controlling your speed through straight-a-ways and around banked curves. An addictive, fun experience unlike anything else you've ever done, the Alpine Slide is fun for all ages, from 1 to 101. Children under 48" tall ride for free but must share a sled with an adult. Please note that if it's raining to call and make sure the slide is still open.

Fishing

Montana's Flathead Valley is the place to catch your "perfect fish." Record-sized lake trout, rainbow trout, large mouth bass and other fish species are found in the many lakes and rivers and provide the serious angler with days of enjoyment.
Our Concierge, located in the lobby of Grouse Mountain Lodge, can arrange half-day and full-day guided trips that include all equipment for both lake fishing and fly fishing.

The Whitefish area is home to over 1,500 lakes in a 50-mile radius, including the 3,350-acre Whitefish Lake, as well as Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The North Fork and main stem of the Flathead River are listed as blue-ribbon trout rivers.

Stream fishing is open the third Saturday in May through November 30. Some streams have extended whitefish and catch-and-release fishing for trout from December through the third Saturday in May. Lake fishing is open the entire year, with some exceptions, which makes for great winter ice fishing.
